Western Scene Utensil Holder
Description
Body: Cream-White Stoneware
Size: 5”H x 4”W (at opening)
Design: A desert scene featuring a horse and rider following a cow across a backdrop of desert plants while a vulture flies overhead. The silhouette exposes the textured stoneware body and the glaze is a sparkling black with gold flecks throughout.
Photography note: I photograph my work in natural light with no editing in order to represent the true aesthetic as accurately as possible. These photos were taken towards the end of the day and show a yellow tint from the sunset.
Making: My pottery is hand-formed on the potter's wheel from stoneware clay. It is then heated to nearly 2000 degrees fahrenheit to "vitrify" the clay, turning it into stone.
I create a design, then apply it to the form as a resist. Glaze is then brushed everywhere except the bottom of the piece. When the resist is removed, it leaves a silhouette of bare clay. It's a simple aesthetic that preserves the texture and color of the clay, while featuring unique design elements.
Care: These pieces are microwave, dishwasher, and food safe.
