Description
Body: Creamy-white Earthware
Design: The hawk silhouette is natural (bare) clay surrounded by a gold-dusted black glaze.
Story: Each spoon rest is hand-formed on the potter's wheel from white earthware clay. They are then heated over 1700 degrees fahrenheit to vitrify the clay, turning it into stone.
Making: I design and apply a resist in the shape of Idaho-local plants or animals; then glaze is hand-brushed everywhere except the bottom of the piece. When the resist is removed, it leaves a silhouette of bare clay. It's a simple aesthetic that preserves the texture and color of the clay, while featuring familiar natural elements.
Once complete, these pieces are microwave, dishwasher, and food safe.
