Deer Zendoodle

Design Notes:

This design is created using a technique known as "Sgraffito". Here, it is done by covering still-moist porcelain clay with a black slip, then carving through it to reveal the white clay underneath. The challenge is achieving detailed, controlled marks that are consistent throughout the piece despite constant moisture changes in the clay. The carved areas have 3D texture and character from the tools used. This piece is especially cool because the interior glaze has an incredibly beautiful shimmer effect in direct light.
